On October 18, 2012, ESPN.com confirmed University of Kentucky men’s basketball student-athlete Nerlens Noel had been cleared for the 2012-2013 college basketball season. Noel, whose eligibility has been in question, was the 2nd-ranked men’s basketball prospective student-athlete per Rivals.com for the 2012 high school class.
Noel’s potential eligibility issues stemmed from the involvement of various persons in his recruiting and how Noel paid for his unofficial visits. Unofficial visits must be financed by the prospective student-athlete.
