Sara Ganim of The Patriot-News reported the U.S. Postal Inspection Service ”launched an investigation into Jerry Sandusky’s children’s charity, The Second Mile”. According to Ganim, the Postal Inspection Service’s ”seventh formal investigation to start since the former Penn State defensive coordinator was charged last year with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse, with most of the alleged victims from his charity”. A person interviewed by postal investigators believed “the investigation was about the organization’s practices, and not specific to the Sandusky investigation”. Ganim notes “postal inspectors have authority over more than 200 federal laws that affect mail-related crime” including “child exploitation related to the distribution of pornography and other crimes related to kids; extortion, when demands for ransom or threats of blackmail are sent through the mail; mail fraud; counterfeit stamps; and money laundering.”
