The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) requested the NCAA for an extension to respond to an NCAA inquiry over the institution’s “handling of accusations of child sex abuse against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky”. ESPN.com reported Penn State was to respond by Friday, December 16, 2011, but “Penn State general counsel Cynthia Baldwin said in a letter to NCAA president Mark Emmert that answers to the NCAA’s questions about the Sandusky case might come from separate probes already in progress. The sex-abuse scandal pertains to allegations that former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky abused at least eight boys. State prosecutors also charged Penn State’s director of athletics Tim Curley and vice-president for finance and business Gary Schultz with perjury and failing to report what they knew about the allegations.
